Simlog Launches World’s First Multi-Display Training Simulator for Stand Up Counterbalanced Lift Trucks to Expand Narrow Aisle Options

Montreal, December 5, 2024 – Simlog Inc., the pioneer and standard in affordable PC-based heavy equipment “Personal Simulators” for operator training in education and industry, is pleased to announce the availability of new Stand Up Counterbalanced Lift Truck, joining (sit-down counterbalanced) Forklift and Reach Lift Truck as Simlog’s third product for the material handling industry.
As the second Personal Simulator developed for stand up material handling work, the new product responds to Simlog customers seeking to optimize supply chain logistics by replacing sit-down counterbalanced “rider” trucks with stand-up alternatives that can work at loading docks and in narrow-aisle racking systems.
Stand Up Counterbalanced Lift Truck Personal Simulator
Developed in collaboration with training professionals and emphasizing best practices, Simlog’s new Stand Up Counterbalanced Lift Truck Personal Simulator puts trainees at the controls of a typical stand up counterbalanced lift truck, sometimes called a “dock stocker”, for work at loading docks and in narrow aisle racking systems, suitable for OSHA Class 2 operator training programs.
Lorin Arnold, National Director, Service and Implementation for Staffmark, part of one of the world’s largest group of staffing companies that includes the brands Indeed and Glass Door, has been utilizing Simlog’s Forklift Personal Simulator for over a decade, and became a key collaborator in the development of Stand Up Counterbalanced Lift Truck Personal Simulator.
“The latest stand up lift simulator from Simlog showcases a truly lifelike experience with enhanced photo-realistic graphics fidelity, advanced physics modeling, and a meticulously crafted virtual environment that mirrors real-world warehouse conditions,” comments Lorin Arnold. “New training modules designed for loading and unloading in confined spaces, racks and open dock areas provide versatile scenarios to train for diverse work environments.”
World’s First Multi-Display Field of View Simulation Experience
Set up just one display where space is limited, or three displays placed to the left, in front, and to the right, to present views that are typical of “side stance” positioning when looking backwards, to the side, and forwards. And the combination of photo-realistic simulation graphics, best-in-class simulation physics, and superior instructional design together provide unmatched operator training help!
As always with Simlog, there are many software options to configure what you see and do, to reproduce the operator controls and steering behaviour of the most common kinds of (real) stand up counterbalanced lift trucks.
Strong Instructional Design with Precise Performance Measurement
Simlog’s Stand Up Counterbalanced Lift Truck Personal Simulator was designed to train entry-level operators on core skills and productive machine operation, while addressing the training needs of a variety of real-world operating environments.
There are a total of 14 Simulation Modules of increasing difficulty for work at loading docks with a Flatbed Truck, a Dry Van trailer, and a Shipping Container. Other modules present work in (narrow aisle) Selective Pallet Racks and Drive-In/Drive-Through Racks. There are 58 Performance Indicators to comprehensively evaluate the simulated work, along with 8 Procedure and Fatal Errors to detect incorrect and unsafe operator actions.
“Simlog’s simulators prove to be a valuable asset serving as an attractive tool for recruiting new employees, showcasing our company’s commitment to technology while investing in our staff’s growth and development by upskilling existing workers,” continues Arnold.” This dual benefit not only enhances employee retention but also provides a competitive edge when attracting top talent to our organization”.
Unique Real-Time Collision Detection and Safety Inspection
In the real world, collisions with obstacles may not always lead to damage that is visible. But colliding with a pallet rack in the same way multiple times will eventually lead to rack failure.
For this reason, Simlog has developed unique new functionality to make collisions visible as they occur during a trial (exercise) and when the trial ends for “after action review”. In this way, trainees “see” where collisions occurred and learn to avoid them as their operating skills improve.
Simulator Controls
Developed in response to demand from customers for a superior simulation experience, Simlog’s USB-ready Industrial Controls feature a Steering Tiller for the left hand, a Foot Brake Pedal, and two pushbuttons and a mini-joystick to pan/tilt the current viewpoint
For the right hand, there are three choices for the OEM Control Handle, to reproduce what you’ll find in the cab of the seven most popular brands (original equipment manufacturers).
The simulator controls are mounted on an industrial console for stand up use, with casters for easy portability and a front panel key lock. They arrive fully assembled, and USB-ready.
Simlog can also provide a simpler, generic, tabletop alternative to the Industrial Controls that we call Replica Controls.
“I’ve had the privilege of witnessing Simlog’s commitment to innovation in operator training through their range of simulators for material handling, continually setting a new standard for realism and effectiveness,” concludes Arnold.” “I’m excited to see what Simlog brings about in the next ten years”.
