Latest PC-based simulator expands the construction equipment line-up for cost-effective operator training

Simlog Inc., the pioneer and standard in affordable PC-based heavy equipment simulators for operator training in education and industry, is pleased to announce the availability of its Bulldozer Personal Simulator.

The Bulldozer Personal Simulator

Developed in collaboration with training professionals in the construction industry, Simlog’s new Bulldozer Personal Simulator puts trainees behind the controls of a medium-sized bulldozer as they experience the demands of a typical construction site, complete with dynamic terrain for life-like dirt pushing and spreading. The equipment simulation maximizes operational realism while emphasizing best practices to give instructors a valuable tool for skills assessment, skills development and refresher training.

“The Bulldozer Personal simulator is our eleventh simulation software product and a natural complement to our popular Hydraulic Excavator and Wheel Loader simulators.” says Paul Freedman, President and Founder of Simlog. “We are committed to remaining at the forefront of affordable PC-based simulation that reduces training costs for the widest range of equipment types required by our customers in both education and industry.”

Strong Instructional Design with Precise Performance Measurement

With seven challenging “Simulation Modules” of increasing difficulty, the simulator is designed to train entry-level operators on core skills and productive machine operation, while addressing the training needs of a variety of real-world operating environments. The trainee is intelligently guided from Controls Familiarization all the way to Spreading, while receiving valuable feedback from 20 key “Performance Indicators” that not only help track their training progress but are diagnostic as well.

Train for Different Makes and Models of Real Bulldozers

The simulation software can be easily configured to simulate the behavior of a wide variety of bulldozers. To accommodate the different pedal arrangements found in real makes and models, the Decelerator and Brake functions may be combined on a single pedal, or be assigned to two separate pedals. Different types of crawler track controls are also addressed by the simulation software. “Counter Rotation” can be activated to ensure that the two crawler tracks will turn in opposite directions when making a tight turn. The speed of the blade functions is also customizable to help mimic a specific make or model required by the instructor.

Reduce Training Costs and Increase Operator Productivity

Simlog’s Personal Simulator training provides hands-on learning in a safe and economical way to enhance conventional operator training programs. Fuel savings during training are in the tens of thousands of dollars and up to $100,000 annually for some of Simlog’s customers.

Inexperience is the leading cause of accidents involving new operators. By first preparing for real work on Simlog’s Bulldozer Personal Simulator, new operators in the field will be up to 50% more productive, and costs associated with repair and maintenance of real equipment will decrease by up to 30%, based on documented evidence from Simlog customers. This is achieved through the productivity building outcomes of the software’s Simulation Modules including Controls Familiarization, Bulldozer Positioning, Boulder Control, Backfilling 1 and 2, Slot Dozing, and Spreading. The modules are intelligently designed to allow trainees to first get proficient at the controls, and then move onto increasing efficiency at real-world tasks, while diagnosing every aspect of their performance throughout the training process. This results in a more confident operator that will be productive in the field from day one.

Tabletop Controls and Operator Chair

Replica simulator controls for Bulldozer Personal Simulator consist of two multi-purpose joysticks and a 3-pedal unit. The right joystick is responsible for blade movement as it raises/lowers the blade, tilts it left/right, and controls the blade “angle” for a total of 3 degrees of movement. The left joystick controls the direction of motion (forward/neutral/reverse), steering (left/right), and engine speed. The 3-pedal unit is used as a decelerator and a brake. PC Controls are also available as a low cost alternative without the realism and industrial quality of Replica Controls.

Simlog’s Operator Chair offers a superior simulation experience, including an authentic adjustable operator seat with consoles for the left and right hands, and the pedal unit installed into the base. All are mounted on an industrial platform with casters for easy mobility.

Dedicated and Multi-Purpose Simulator Stations

Simlog’s Personal Simulators are recognized for offering the lowest cost-per-station on the market. It is especially the case when customers take advantage of overlapping controller requirements. Since many Personal Simulators can share the same controls, it is possible to set up cost-saving multi-purpose stations. For example, by using two 8-button multi-purpose joysticks, a station can run both the Bulldozer and Hydraulic Excavator Personal Simulators by simply switching between their respective USB pedal units.

Pricing and Availability

The price of the commercial software license for Simlog’s Bulldozer Personal Simulator is just USD$6,000 per PC. The simulator controls (PC Controls, Replica Controls and Operator Chair) are priced to accommodate a wide range of budgets. Current Simlog customers may be able to re-use their existing controls. The Bulldozer Personal Simulator is available now. Contact Simlog or your local Value-Added Reseller for complete pricing details.
