Montreal, November 29, 2018 – Simlog Inc., the pioneer and standard in affordable PC-based heavy equipment simulators for operator training in education and industry, is pleased to announce the availability of its newest product, the Reach Lift Truck Personal Simulator, the world’s first multi-display training simulator for reach lift trucks.
Reach Lift Truck Personal Simulator
Developed in collaboration with training professionals and emphasizing best practices, Simlog’s new Reach Lift Truck Personal Simulator puts trainees at the controls of a typical stand-up “narrow aisle” lift truck with a scissors-like pantograph to extend and retract the forks. Training scenarios are typical of warehouses and distribution centers where racking systems are tall and spaced closely together to increase storage density.
There are many software options to configure what you see and do, to reproduce the operator controls and steering behaviour of the most common kinds of (real) reach lift trucks.
Set up just one display where space is limited, or three displays placed to the left, in front, and to the right, to present views that are typical of “side stance” positioning when looking backwards, in front, and forwards.
“Reach Lift Truck is the 15th Personal Simulator in our company’s 19 year history,” says Paul Freedman, President and Founder. “And this new Personal Simulator complements our existing Forklift Personal Simulator, both delivering unmatched simulation graphics and training value with a focus on what it takes to operate all makes and models of lift trucks found at work in racking systems and on loading docks.”
Strong Instructional Design with Precise Performance Management
Featuring a total of seven “Simulation Modules” of increasing difficulty, Simlog’s Reach Lift Truck Personal Simulator was designed to train entry-level operators on core skills and productive machine operation, while addressing the training needs of a variety of real-world operating environments.
The trainee is intelligently guided from learning the controls to driving forwards and backwards through a “slalom” course that’s typical of the Practical Exams used to certify operators at the controls of real lift trucks. After that are two modules for working in racking systems with aisles of a “standard” width, followed by two more modules for which aisles are now “narrow”. As with all Simlog products, valuable feedback is provided at every step thanks to comprehensive “Performance Indicators” that measure training progress.
Tabletop Replica Controls
Because real reach lift trucks can have different kinds of operator controls, Simlog’s Reach Lift Truck personal simulator offers lots of setup options.
Replica Controls begin with a horizontally-mounted steering wheel with a “knob” for the left hand to turn from a standing position, along with a “control lever” (a two-axis joystick) for the right hand that can be oriented either vertically or horizontally, to move forwards/backwards for travel forwards/backwards.
To move the forks up/down, you can use the control lever or push-buttons for the thumb. Other push-buttons on the control lever are used to extend/retract the pantograph, side shift, tilt, and “lean” left/right to change the viewpoint.
Multi-Purposing Possibilities
Simlog’s Products are recognized for offering the lowest cost per simulator station on the market, thanks to Simlog’s unique multi-purposing. In this way, the same simulator controls, computer, displays, etc. can be put to work to train people to operate different kinds of heavy equipment using different Simlog simulation software programs. And now, with Reach Lift Truck, we’re bringing such multi-purposing to our material handling lineup, when combined with Simlog’s Forklift Personal Simulator.
Improve Training Safety and Reduce Training Costs
Using Simlog’s Reach Lift Truck Personal Simulator as a “virtual” seat, trainees can first get proficient at the controls, and then move on to advanced tasks of increasing difficulty without the cost and danger of operating a real reach lift truck. This results in a significant cost reduction thanks to fewer mistakes in the field, less wear and tear on equipment, and reduced risk of accidents, not to mention the costs associated with replacing damaged loads.
“Of course, the same simulator can also be used to pre-screen training candidates for operator aptitude when promoting from within, or when your training program is over-subscribed”, says Mike Keffer, Director of Sales and Marketing at Simlog. “Some of our customers are also using their Simlog products for pre-employment skills assessment as part of their recruiting, for cross-training operators, and help experienced operators refresh their skills.”
