Press Release
Montreal, March 13, 2000 - Simlog's new face drilling (drill jumbo)
training simulator was proudly unveiled to the international mining
community for the first time on March 8, 2000, in Toronto, Ontario, at Mining Millennium 2000 (CIM-Tradex), sponsored by the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum.
The drill jumbo training simulator, the world's first, was developed in collaboration with Atlas Copco Construction and Mining North America. It incorporates industrial controls, three dimensional models of the rig and the mining drift (tunnel), along with performance criteria to measure drilling performance in innovative ways made possible by graphical simulation, in order to improve hole parallelism and drilling time.
With the simulator on display beside their real "Rocket Boomer" drill jumbo under the theme "The Face of Innovation", Atlas Copco was awarded first prize at "Mining Millennium 2000" for the best booth.
It's expected that the new simulator will soon be put to the test in Sudbury, Ontario, under the supervision of Atlas Copco personnel, in order to better evaluate the simulator's added value to training.
The development of 3D training simulators for the mining industry complements Simlog's existing simulator products for the forestry and construction industries. Simlog is continuing to aggressively pursue new business opportunities for training heavy equipment operators.
