But the problem is, you need the right kind of "doing". And that's why people say perfect practice makes perfect, whether you're learning to play a musical instrument like the piano, or learning to play a sport like hockey.


There are three parts to the "deliberate practice" associated with skill-based learning.


The right kind of tasks

You need to have training tasks that become harder and harder as you become better and better so that at each step, the objective is just beyond your reach, i.e. your current level of competence.


And at Simlog, our Personal Simulators feature a special instructional design that decomposes the real work into Simulation Modules which introduce key tasks, one at a time. Each Simulation Module presents a new goal that is challenging but attainable, thus reducing frustration while maintaining interest. And since each Simulation Module builds upon the previous ones, you learn more quickly. (Imagine learning to drive a car by mastering the steering wheel and pedals separately before using them together!)


The right kind of feedback

You need lots of feedback, since you can't know how to do things right when you begin. (If you could, you'd be an expert instead of a novice.) The fact is, without feedback, you'd never be able to notice that you're doing something wrong and down the road, you'd need to "un-learn" those bad habits.


At Simlog, your (simulated) performance is carefully measured in ways that are much more objective and much more comprehensive than a human trainer ever could. Indeed, each Simulation Module features its own set of "Performance Indicators" associated with both job quality and productivity. And at the end of each exercise, the values of all those indicators are presented for your review. (Remember too that since your Simlog coach can never get angry or impatient with you, it will always judge your performance in exactly the same ways!)


The right kind of "drill and practice"

Learning takes time. Lots of time. And lots of repetition.


That's why, at Simlog, you'll find hundreds of pre-defined exercises for each Simulation Module, to provide many hours of continuous (and carefully supervised) training! Note too that this Simlog kind of drill and practice is much more concentrated than real work because as soon as you complete a simulation exercise, a new one starts. There's never any waiting for something or someone to get ready.
